CASYA 17 – St Mary CATECHISM CENTRE, Melbourne West

Faith formation through catechism has been a vital part of nurturing the spiritual growth of the younger generation at St. Mary’s Syro Malabar Parish, Melbourne West. This journey began in early 2013, when catechism classes for children were introduced alongside the celebration of the Holy Qurbana, which had commenced in 2011. What began as monthly classes gradually evolved, and by 2017, with the official establishment of our community as a parish, weekly catechism sessions became the norm.

A significant milestone was reached in 2022 with the consecration of our parish church, enabling regular programs and activities that further enrich the faith life of our young parishioners. This includes, Residential Faith Programs, Faith Fest, Bible Kalolsavam, and other spiritually enriching events. Together, they have played a crucial role in instilling strong Catholic values and building a lasting foundation that leads our children closer to Christ. The Catechism teachers, Parish Priest, and parents work collaboratively to ensure that our children grow in their understanding of the Syro-Malabar faith, which is deeply rooted in the apostolic traditions handed down from St. Thomas the Apostle, who brought Christianity to India. We endeavour to continue providing a nurturing environment, raising children to become faithful Christian stewards and an integral part of the Catholic community here in Australia.
