From the beginning of 2000, a number of Malayalee families with Syro Malabar Catholic Background moved and settled in Springfield, a newly developed suburb in South-East Queensland. In 2013, around 25 families started to gather together for prayer and fellowship. Under the leadership of some faithful laity, regular catechism classes began by 2014. With the appointment of Rev. Fr. Peter Kavumpuram as the Chaplain in 2015, St. Joseph’s Syro Malabar Mission is inaugurated and Most Rev. Bishop Bosco Puthur celebrated the first Malayalam Holy Qurbana at Springfield. From that time onwards, our Syro Malabar community in Springfield surged in numbers.
Currently, our Mission includes 250 registered families and 220 children attending regular catechism classes under the guidance and leadership of 40 dedicated teachers. St. Joseph Syro Malabar Mission in Springfield is growing both in numbers and faith by the Grace of God.
