In 2012, Syro-Malabar community in Adelaide received Rev Fr Francis Perumadan OFM (Cap) as its temporary chaplain. In 2013, Rev Dr Frederick Eluvathingal was appointed as the first Chaplain for this community. In the same year Syro-Malabar community in Adelaide was divided into three missions. St. Mary’s Syro Malabar Adelaide Mission was raised into a Parish in 2019. Fr. Ajith Cheriakkara was appointed as the first Parish priest of our Parish.
Catechism at St. Mary’s was started in 2010 with monthly classes under the spiritual guidance of Rev.Fr John Shanahan Parish Priest of St. Ann’s Parish. Initially, classes were conducted in St. Bernadette school building and later moved to the Parish hall. Since 2012, regular catechism classes started weekly on Fridays, and from 2014 onwards classes commenced on every Sunday. Catechism classes are conducted for students from Reception to year 12. Mr. Joshy Anthony served as First Catechism Principal (2010 to 2018). Following that Bijish Augustian (2019-2022) and Suji Paul (2023-current) served as Catechism Principal of St.Mary’s Sunday school.
